Protesters tried to stop demolition of one of the last remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall on Friday March 1, decades after jubilant Berliners tore down sections of the hated symbol of the Cold War. Blowing whistles and brandishing placards with slogans such as "Berlin is selling itself and its history", around 200 people gathered at a 1.3-km painted section of the wall known as The East Side Gallery, adorned with the work of artists such as Keith Haring and Gerald Scarfe. The East Side Gallery, on the banks of the River Spree, was declared a historic monument in 1992 and has since become one of Berlin's main tourist attractions. One section features a giant image of East German leader Erich Honecker and his Soviet counterpart Leonid Brezhnev kissing each other on the lips.

Photographer Cathal McNaughton spent time documenting street art across Northern Ireland. Historically most of the hundreds of murals there promoted either republican or loyalist political beliefs, often glorifying paramilitary groups such as the Irish Republican Army or the Ulster Volunteer Force, or commemorating people who lost their lives in paramilitary or military attacks. However, since the paramilitary ceasefires some of the paintings have become less sectarian, celebrating sporting successes and cultural achievements.
